This program contains over six decades of noteworthy sightings that the BOS has been compiling. These records are the sole property of the BOS and have been made available for research and informational purposes only.

Currently, the Noteworthy Records span the years from 1960 through December, 2025. The taxonomy used comes from The American Ornithological Society's (AOS) Checklist, which is the official source on the taxonomy of birds found in North and Middle America, including adjacent islands. This list is produced by the North American Classification and Nomenclature Committee (NACC) of the AOS. The BOS Noteworthy Records have recently been updated to the 66th AOS Supplement.

Average migration arrival dates shown on the Search page were calculated using BOS data. To better reflect average arrivate dates, outliers were evaluated and removed by Willie D'Anna, BOS statistician.

Use the Search page to look up the taxonomy for a species as well as its average arrival dates. No dates indicate the species does not normally migrate through Western New York. To access the full program, BOS members can login with their BOS website login and search the BOS Noteworthy Records and/or run their own calculations for average arrival dates.

AOU 66th Supplement Changes:

• Herring Gull has been split into European Herring Gull and American Herring Gull
• Warbling Vireo has been split into Eastern Warbling-Vireo and Western Warbling-Vireo
